Cheers to Us
Whenever I make my yearly trip to Rhode Island, I always make sure to visit two very special people. Back when in undergrad, I took a Spanish class where I met my future partner in crime, my “soulmate”, my best friend, and her partner. I helped my best friend through not one, not two, but three Spanish classes, and we had the absolute best (and funniest) of times. Now that I live 650+ miles west, I always make sure to meet up with them whenever I’m in town.
While I was in Rhode Island, I met up with my silly company over drinks and pizza, and fondly remembered the hilarious times we spent in Spanish class. From me translating everything for her (she didn’t know a single word of Spanish after four Spanish classes - oy!), to her being my comedic relief and making snarky side comments about our classmates and teacher.
Once we received our drinks, we made a toast to us, to good times, good food, and good memories. I took a picture of this special occasion and turned it into a watercolor painting.
While looking at this art piece, I invite my viewers to think of a time where they were in the company of special people. This could have been a time where they met for dinner, simply hung out somewhere, or even had a video call with them. I invite my viewers to cherish special friendships, the friendships where being in this company brings pure joy and laughter. Hold on tight to those people around you.
